2022 Reserve Syrah
2022 Reserve Syrah
Red plums, fennel seed and white pepper on the nose, underpinned by tones of black berries, meat spice and dried thyme. A focused and elegant palate, guided by fine tendrils of red and black fruit tannin and pristine acidity. A finish of quenching minerality, awash with wet granite and subtle hints of black pepper.
Winemaking: Fruit was hand-picked and gently de-stemmed, with the berries left un-crushed to preserve the natural fruit perfumes and allow for slow and controlled tannin and flavour extraction. Fermentation took place in traditional open top fermenters with only 2 daily plunges in order to preserve the integrity of the skin and extract only the finest tannin and flavours. After 12 days of fermentation the wine was gently separated from the skin and transferred to French oak Puncheons, where it remained for 14 months before blending, clarification and bottling.

The Wine Pilot
“A striking, individually-style Syrah from Western Australia’s Geographe wine region. There’s considerable fruit weight to this wine enlivened by the role of spice – it’s quite a vibrant and attractive addition. Aromas of black cherry, plum, aniseed, fennel seed and pencil lead/ graphite oak. Spices really come to the fore on the palate highlighted by black and red fruits, chocolate, fennel, earth and ginger root. A vein of gentle oak runs the full distance of the wine. Geographe is home to some 36 grape varieties but Shiraz – aka Syrah – probably deserves special recognition. This reserve Syrah shows its class and is a stand-out wine.” (May 2024)

“Deep-ish red with a purple rim, the bouquet is all walnut/pecan nut oak-derived savoury aromas with earthy, brown-spice shiraz fruit beneath it…” 2024-2035 (Nov 2023)
